Dr.Padmasubramaniam 's Program in Gayan Samaj

GIFTED TO BE ALIVE IN THE SAME TIMES AS DR.PADMA SUBRAMANIAM :

It was such a bliss to be part of Paddu Akka's Art experience this evening.
It is not mere dance performance it is much beyond.
She has transcended all techniques /styles & what she exudes is sheer brlliance of Knowledge, of Sathva ,Drenched in details in abhinaya that we cannot even comprehend. It is a life time experience & in a way life changing experience for us to watch a GENIUS, A LEGEND like her.
She was not dancing for audience but for ETERNITY ITSELF.
Before you consider me crazy i wish to say that YOU R RIGHT.
Any artist ,any art lover would feel this way as ....till today she seems to be the only one who can make everybody from old, wise knowledgable connoisseurs to art practitioners to students & common people ...all unanimously CRY.
What is so special about her if you wonder, it is her tremendous command over Shastra, Puranas, Philosophy,Music,Dance,Acting, Observation of Life & its perfect application into the theme & above all her immense capacity to communicate the same using angika vachika aharya & sathvika abhinayas.Shudhdha Saathvika stands above the three.
This kind of Rasa Siddhi (attainment) is probably the cause constant Tapas ( Penance) of not just one but several births.
To watch an artist attain this itself is our good fortune.
Bhagavadgeetha was the theme she presented. All the aspects of the program was TOP.
The aesthetic chariot wheels kept as a simple prop, her attire like that of warrior ,she looked gorgeous ,beautiful krishna & handsome Arjuna. Her entry, her gaits , her bhava through out Bhagavadgeetha was super fine transporting one & all to timelessness. As Arjuna in the Vishada Yoga the way she showed withdrawal from attack & requests to Krishna was so sweet that one instantly falls in love with the character.
The way Paddu Akka moves herself from one situation to other, her eyes remain fixed in front 99 % of the time & they are so powerful that immediately the audiences are hooked .
She moves from one emotion to another so smoothly that its like the most delicious taste melting inside ,it is like being part of a poetry creation , like the dance of best strokes of a painting ,the finest part of a great movie. This is the truth that i experienced !

Her depiction of the abstract aspects of the Geetha like the Three Gunas , The Nature of beings as per these gunas & the placements souls get when they leave the body during these states was shown with such clarity that it seemed so real yet so artistic.Specially with the jathis she used to show Tamo Guna she danced the full Jathi in Laziness...
That was truly creative !
The Hall Mark was the Vishwarupa Darshana. She requested Krishna to show the Vishwarupa in such myriad ways that we wonder if Arjuna in reality looked so adorable. The various shades of Bhavas of Fear, Surprise, Joy,Astonishment, Wonder & the ways she showed the expansion of the hands, legs, Stomach,Heads, Eyes & the Fearful form of Vishwarupa with shivers passing through Arjuna actually was experienced by the audience.
It felt like WE

were Arjuna experiencing the Vishwarupa & could feel the chills.
The Entire production set to music by Paddu Akka with excellent singing by gayathri & Veena by kannan was the soul of the program.Specially places where Arjuna's request for Krishna to come back to Original form & how he asks for pardon from krishna for addressing him as a sakha ( friend) is unforgettable.
The face she made of the all knowing Krishna who still likes to be the pal & hugs Arjuna & still Arjuna chooses to fall at his feet. All these emotions felt like as if we were there standing next to the characters.
Throughout the program there were abhinaya details that threw us all at once into the ocean of Rasa & we have still not found the shore.
All i can say is that watching Paddu Akka do Bhagavadgeetha is like experiencing GOD & ...
we dont feel like coming out of this Godliness ...

IT IS TRULY A BLISS TO BE LIVING IN HER TIMES.
Thank you Paddu Akka
Thank you GOD !

Our Journey in one year

Our Journey in One Year !

Dearest Friends,

Hope you had a great time spending with family & friends during Pongal/Shankranti.

The last one year has been a big roller coaster ride for us with highs & lows & yet we are standing firmly rooted on the ground.
all because of your love & affection towards us.

Just wanted to share with you some highlights of our journey:

We have enriched ourselves learning, observing some masters through the various activities we organized at our dance studio like lectures, Interactive sessions with people of eminence like Dr.Maya Rao,Shathavadhani Dr.R.Ganesh who offered the unique art (Ashtavadhana) & the Natya Shastra sessions, elevating performance by Mrs.Leela Samson,Talk on Wellness by Sri.Vishweshwar Hegde, Music by Pt.Vinayak Torvi & others which gave us all Blissful times !

Between January 2010 to this January 11th we have shared our joys with a large number of audiences of more than
2,00,000 people through stage performances alone.
Through Television performances we do reach out to millions but being able to share energies LIVE- On stage performances was something to cherish !
We commonly hear complaints that classical arts do not reach out to youngsters /college goers or that young people are no more interested in watching classical programs.Well...we always think it is it is our responsibilities as artists to create that interest in young people & In this context, we are very happy to say that our performances got overwhelming responses from over 75,000 students who watched our dance choreographies at the following venues - SDM College Dharwad,Mysore Dusserah ,Alva's Virasat & ABVP show ,Bangalore. Many have even written to us through mails & facebook.
We wish to give all credits to our hardworking & passionate team of ADC for sharing quality art with the world !
GREAT JOB ARTISTS ! KUDOS !

Legendary Artists like Dr.Bala Murali Krishna,Dr.N.Ramani, Smt.Sudha Raghunathan, Great Scholars like Shri.Bannanje Govindacharya,Shathavadhani Dr.R.Ganesh & Philanthrophists /Educationists like Dr.Veerendra Hegde,Dr.Mohan Alva,President of Shri.Ramkrishna Ashrama Shri.Gauthamananda ji , have all blessed us by their presence & appreciation to our creativity.
We also had the great privilege of performing in front of Great Gurus like Kalanidhi Mami ,Leela Samson, Madhavi Mudhghal,Kumudini Lakhia, Prof Chandrashekar,Udupi Lakshmi Narayan Sir, Savithri Jagannatha Rao & several true connoisseurs have also immensely loved our works.

Each of these people represent the Power of Several Gods & Goddesses !

The program organized by our very dear friend Jayarama Acharya brought us the honor of being felicitated by the Paryaya Swamiji of Udupi at the holy precincts of the Krishna Mutt & later part of the year we had the opportunity to present our Rama Katha Vismaya for the 80 years Birth Celebrations of Pejawara Swamiji at Udupi.

Our Interactions students world over at Dance India - UK organized by MILAP FEST was again a great uplifter of our spirits.

In many of our performances, we came across several people (who were total strangers) who became our soul mates as they connected with our art as shudhdha rasikas. After the performances some have even hugged us with immense love & blessed us for our well being & longevity - Genuine wishes :)
Those were some of the the best moments in our lives.

To sum it up , ART WAS & WILL ALWAYS BE OUR ONLY LIFE SAVIOR , LIFE ENHANCER.
It gave us tremendous strength to face calamities, like Rajendra's serious hand injury, Medical emergencies & repeated hospitalization of my mother & the recent loss of my dear brother,in all these times the only thing that stood by us was OUR INDIAN ART.

Meeting Great Stalwarts, Friendship with Art lovers from various cities & countries & top of all, the Immense power of our ADC dancers ,all of whom we dearly love have been the GREAT INSPIRATION for us to MOVE ON.

Seeking your best wishes to receive & offer more to the world in the coming years.
God Bless all.
Nirupama Rajendra

MOST BEAUTIFUL VIJAYADASHAMI

DANCE BECAME THEIR BEST FRIEND !

All the students/family members of Abhinava came together this morning to offer their love for dance at the studio.
The tiniest one to the biggest were in beautiful festival attire , brilliant jewels & more brilliant than everything was their smile, their talents & their dancing which they selflessly offered to the Lord Almighty.
This sharing goes a long way building their confidence levels, enhancing their skills & creating new relationship with dance.
They all danced one after the other creating beautiful atmosphere & soothing aura of themselves through Bharathanatyam & Kathak styles. It was not about how perfect they danced but how sincerely each connected with the self through music ,movement & expressions. What came through in the 5 hours session was pure love, pure beauty & at once all had been elevated to a world of bliss.
Rajendra & i are truly blessed to have such wonderfully talented students & faculty members.
The students inspired each other ,helped each other , created a great harmony which was so pleasing!
They were all in various levels but on the same journey to explore the ultimate.
For those who had already travelled a certain distance this sharing made Art come closer, for those who have just begun their journey ,Dance meant SOMETHING !

I suppose today Dance became their best friend :)

We sincerely pray that this friendship remains special forever as Dance can truly nurture them, strengthen their bodies, regulate their emotions , uplift their inner beings & guide them to experience the Joys & challenges of Life.

God Bless All .

Mirror Mirror on the Wall !

ACTOR / DANCER FACTOR :

Sharing with you some thoughts on ACTORS expressed in a magazine ( Southscope) that we read recently written by
Mrs.Suhasini Maniratnam - a very fine actress /wife of the intelligent Director Maniratnam.

What she says here can also apply to dance practitioners as acting ( abhinaya) forms an integral part of classical dance.

When asked "What does it take to be an actor" she says :
A three year old that makes faces at the mirror while brushing his teeth is a potential actor.

The fact that everyone enjoys seeing one's face in the mirror is an indication that he /she will perform on stage or in front of the camera.

If you want to be an actor ,dont watch Shahrukh Khan or Ajith on screen & try to imitate them. Instead, buy a full sized mirror,
walk in front of it.Talk, laugh, cry and dance before it for ten days.
By the end of this, look at the mirror , decide if you still like what you see,if you find the mirror image hopeless & disgusting, drop your acting aspirations & go back to college or office. If the image on the mirror is still interesting, exciting ,enroll in an acting class, dance class or diction class and try to learn acting.

An actor should keep talking to himself to get over his inhibitions. If you can listen to yourself & continue, you will definitely be able to take directions from the filmmaker. Before all this, one has to groom oneself.
However much we say looks are NOT so important ,when it comes to the camera, the way one looks matters the most.
The actor may not be the most handsome man or Miss Universe, but has to have a special charm that makes him/her unique.
Take any successful actor- he does have that extra spark.

Taking on from what Suhasiniji says, we are so happy that we work on similar thoughts.

Since i was a kid i used to enjoy being in front of the mirror & this may sound silly but there was one time where i went so close to the mirror that my face was like in the tight close up & i thought i was in a movie while i moved my face sloooooowly  one end to the other trying various expressions & after that i felt soooo good i told myself i am going to be STAR ! No kidding ! I was 11 years old, I loved makeup, beautiful costumes. Since then Mirror was my best friend.
Even today to feel good about a posture, movements or some very special moves i go close to the mirror & try it out.
It has given me great confidence & i have felt beautiful.
I am sure there are many other dancers who feel the same. It brings in a new sense of appreciation for the self.

When we train our dancers ( who perform with ADC ) we tell them to look into the mirror & fall in love with themselves, because it creates a certain PRESENCE !

It brings in a change in the way one carries oneself , the confidence, the Joy,the feel good factor of sharing good energies :)

We believe that good grooming leads to the door to every dancer/actor to reach out to THEIR BEST.
Then the world becomes theirs :)

In the next stage of presentation ,the way the dancers look ,their make up , costumes , jewellery are all Important factors that add to the visual effect. These outer facilities do help in carrying forward the inner emotions.

So may all aspiring actors/ dancers quickly rush to their mirrors & ask
"Mirror Mirror on the Wall ,
Show me the best artist of all ... "

And as Suhasiniji also points , one never knows the mirror may say"
ITS YOU  !
