MAGICAL MAYA DIDI :

ADC had the greatest privilege to have the Legendary Guru.Dr.Maya Rao fondly addressed as Maya didi share her experiences of Abhinaya with the students of Abhinava.
She brought the delicate nuances of Virahothkantitha & Vasakasajjika Nayika through two beautiful Tumris which she made us all sing & dance. It was the most memorable times for all the students.
Students who attended the workshop are welcome to share their experiences.

Memorable three days at Chennai

Memorable three days at Chennai, offering our artistic abilities in front of a great Stalwart- Dr.Padma Subramaniam on April 30th, a unique choreography experience with the genius on May 1st & being present with our Guru Dr.Maya Rao on May 2nd at the Awards function where the legendary artist was honored with "Tagore Ratna" Award at the Music Academy- Chennai.

Just returned from Chennai this morning after a series of most memorable events.

April 30th - Utsav Music collaborated with Sri.Krishna Gana Sabha on the occasion of World Dance Day & invited us to perform.
We had the honor to dance at this wonderful sabha which has featured Stalwarts over 60 years & has amazing energy to the space.
It was indeed a pleasure to dance in front wonderful Rasikas & specially the Chief Guests - Dr.Padma Subramaniam who received the Utsav Ratna Award & the American Consul General -Chennai.
The audience response for the Varsha was so spontaneous ,specially when we were showing rain drops it felt like the audiences simply loved the feel of cool showers , it was perfect for the heat :)
This time we added some more imageries to this piece & it felt very very good.
Ta-Dha also had a great response as we could feel the "wow ! energy" from people specially during the unpredictable arresting pauses.
Paddu Akka said :
"Outstanding ! loved the grace, the way you enjoyed every moment & your music was extraordinary ! "
Pavithra ( Accomplished Dancer ) :
" I have seen so many couples dance but when you dance together ,the kind of love & respect you bring for each other brings in a feel of reverence in us ". Some of the young dancers said they " loooooooooooooooooved it " :) sweet of them !
It was also nice to meet Actor -dancer Vineet & Mohini attam dancer Jayaprabha Menon who were sharing the same stage on the occasion.
Thanks to Mr.Pandian & Radhika Shurajit for organising such a wonderful event.

May 1st - Coming into this world 41 years ago i wanted my birthday to be special & it turned out more special than i could imagine.
We went to Ramakrishna Ashram & met Swami Gouthamananda ji , it is amazing to see how even in his late seventies he is still glowing & enthusiastic about meeting the devotees , sharing inspiring talks & serving the Ramakrishna Mutt & gearing up to travel to the mutts located in different parts of the world. We had excellent Prasadam there.
That afternoon Dr.Padma Subramaniam called us to her place & gave us the MOST MEMORABLE GIFT of our life.
She said i want to do something for you both , i dont know what but just come & when you stand in front of me something will come ," God will make it happen" & she did something so beautiful, so beautiful that we were elevated.
She choreographed a Devaranama for the two of us.
She said i will give you the structure & you may do it in any style...it is "Bharatha's Natya " ,we realised she is beyond any style...she connects with the style of RASA.
We were simply awestruck by her ideas which are profound yet her moves are simple at the same time filled with Sathva ! her understanding of music , poetry ,spirituality, puranic stories, basic human emotions ...everything is sooooooooooooo deep & Classy!
She said this was her GIFT to me.
What can one offer to reciprocate the grace from a Guru , only total surrender i suppose !
We shall never ever forget this Birthday.

May 2nd - Birthday + Great day of Honor for our Guru.Dr.Maya Rao
Our dearest loveliest Guru Maya Didi, a person who is the force behind who we are today turned 83 on May 2nd & the Central Sangeeth Natak Academy chose this date to confer the Award of Tagore Ratna to Maya didi at the Music Academy.
This was Rajendra's & my dgreatest opportunity to be there when our Guru was being honored.
We were there then also when Didi got the Academy Award in Bangalore & these moments are sooooooo special for us.
Her knowledge coupled with dignity & humility is a great inspiration for us.
It is amazing that even at this Stature ,she along with other Awardees went for the rehearsal of the Awards.
The evening was a function which moistened our eyes as we could not stop admiring the people who came on stage.
The Awardees were all 75 yrs & above ,people who gave their life to Art ,whether they had two meals a day was immaterial but their passion & dedication for their chosen field brought them to this recognition.
Some came on the Wheel Chair, Many with walking sticks & some had people holding them as they walked to the centre of he stage.
As p
eople clapped their eyes & skin just glowed & to hold the award probably was like holding a tender baby which they nurtured with utmost love & care , incessantly for 75 -80 years & their hearts swelled.
Along with Maya didi were Kalanidhi mami, Flute Mestro Ramani sir, Nedhunuri Krishnamurthi, M.S.Goplakrishnan ,Jayalakshmi amma, Kathakali masters, musicians ,theatre personalities , veteran actors & theatre personalities.
They all glowed like full bloomed golden lotuses receiving honours from the creator & the look in their eyes  for the heavenly applause was like music from the celestials.
These are the special energies whom we all have to look up to ,for ,
they have walked the path of Art for 75-80 years
without looking back ,
purely for the love for the Arts.
May their light fall upon us & lead us all to the glory of Arts.
Salutations !

Orissa - Punya Bhoomi !

Being invited to Bhuvaneshwar by the Orissa Sangeet Nrithya Academy for the Choreography Festival gave us a wonderful opportunity to experience the Punya Bhoomi -Orissa which seemed so pure, devotional & magnanimous.
The people are really nice ,friendly ,their language Odiya is like brother of Sanskrit & sounds very nice.
Odissi dance style is one of the most beautiful styles of our country with its rich traditions , most enchanting movements & soul stirring music. What a creation of God !
The tourism department with its new Secretary Mr.Kothari is very promising.
He seems to be a great leader as all his office people spoke about him with great reverence.
He made sure that we were given excellent hospitality ,he even organised transport for us to see KONARK.
Seeing Konark temple which is an incredible mastery of art ,one wonders if it is the same EARTH that we live on ...because it is simplyheavenly. No words to describe the skill ,intelligence & talents of the people who made it.
We are eager to go back & stay there & relish the temple's soul , its sculptures, its philosophy ,everything.
The Chairperson of the Orissa Sangeetha Nruthya Academy - Smt.Aruna Mohanty, herself an accomplished odissi dancer had organized the whole series of performances & the seminar next morning very efficiently.
Meeting the artists from Orissa & sharing good laughters with our dear friend Dr.Sunil Kothari felt very good.
Our heart seeks to return to the Punyabhoomi

V.V.Puram Walk of Fame !

It was great to see Shekhar Kapur- the renowned Hollywood director bring the Hollywood Walk of Fame to Namma Preethiya Tindi Bedhi v.v.puram , Bangalore.
We were so happy that we had a good chat at our dance studio before we set out to explore the different tindis.
It was very nice of him to Tweet about his presence in our studio.
We were amazed by his humility , his inquisitiveness in knowing our culture, our roots & his unassuming quiet nature that has produced some remarkable World Class OSCAR movies.
We walked from V.B.Bakery on the muddy street & went all the way up to Shivanna's angadi ,he loved the bele, Gulcan & the Masala Soda.He also tried the four different kinds of tindi ,Tatte Idli, Avare Kaalu Dose,Paddu & Akki Rotti.
Throughout he was taking pictures walking right into the crowd who were oblivious of his presence.
Then all of a sudden some girls came running & took pictures , word spread around & it was quite nice to see the way people were reacting, most eyes popped out ,strangers were smiling even more strangely as we all walked to our car.
He was constantly tweeting & sending pictures to his friends world over.
Friends, dont be surprised if Shekar's next film has someone eating Avarekalu Dose :)

MOCKING DEATH !

_mg_3281

MOCKING DEATH !

I thought I was the craziest person on this Earth who presented Life celebrating dance sequences

where my dearest mother passed away the same morning.
I had gone through a big ordeal of sleepless nights ,emotions of watching the loved one suffer & final departure of my mother who left her mortal body right in front of my eyes.
I stood strong by her side throughout her hospitalizations, treatments & medical care, chanting Vishnu Sahasranama mantras & her favorite devotional songs all the while & she loved it.
I was right next to her holding on to my faith that God's name & music would penetrate deep in to the consciousness of a person & touch the soul & so continued to sing & chant.
Even when she was in coma her skin would release the wrinkles & relax during the singing.
My mother was a great spirited lady who celebrated life beyond the illness of her Body.
After saying bye bye to my love i did a performance the same evening !!!
24 hrs have passed & now it is hitting me....
I was the craziest person on this Earth to do a performance the same evening...

Why did i do it ..i don't know ... Untill a good friend pointed out that,i actually
MOCKED death by showing the world GOD'S answer to him...
To spread the light,
To spread optimism ,
which is DANCE.

Haveri Utsava [ Mails from Audience ]

Mail from Mr.Arun Khannur

Dear Nirupama & Rajendra,

Here are my congratulations and special thanks for taking your time and effort to reach out rural audience at Haveri Zilla Utsav held at Byadgi on 13th Feb 2012.
Performance from "Abhinava" was exceptional and audience responded with a standing ovation. It was a perfect blend of dance, music, lighting, audio-visuals with meticulous planning and excellent execution. In addition, we respect your commitment and dedication in exhibiting your calm and composure even when your mother was serious. You focused on delivering the best and at the same time you were very much accommodative to certain limitations like carpet and green room etc. I own the responsibility for these limitations.

Your team has disproved that rural folks do not appreciate classical dance and proved that if performed to perfection everyone is compelled to respect.

We are honored by your presence and performance.

I am sure that both of you would take Indian Culture and Dance to new horizon. India needs people like you.

God bless you, God bless Abhinava !
Thanks & Regards,
Arunkumar Khannur | Chairman and CEO | BANGALORE, INDIA.

................

My Humble take on this :

I wish the World to know that :

If it were not for the Grace from above, such beautiful concepts would not have come to us ,If it were not for Praveen Rao, Pravin Ghods & Shivu's unique skills , such souls stirring music would not have emerged,
If not for Rajendra's  lighting design & fine taste in sound recordings & selection of costumes , the audio - visual treat would not have happened.
Without constant artist co ordination work by Megha Bhaskar ,meticulous planning & incessant efforts of MRIDULA in conducting Rehearsals & efforts of dancers who worked individually like Naveen ,Shweta Babu & Srividhya there wouldn't be such beautiful rendition of quality Art.

Most importantly EACH of the artist who took this program to heart who took off from work, college, school & other activities & gave time for rehearsals -
Rohini,Shamita ,Bhavani, Kruthi, Rashmi, Manasa,Jyothsna,Radhika,Archana,Ramyashree, Ranju, Anusha,Bharath, Pavan Anil Deepak Ganesh Naveen.

All of them brought good energies to me , honestly,

Success of this program truly belongs to
EVERY ONE OF THEM.
 God bless All.
